2TONE: LIVES AND LEGACIES – 2TONE AND ROCK AGAINST RACISM

Activities and events labelled as ‘Taking Place In Cov 2021’ have not been produced or commissioned by Coventry City of Culture Trust but are taking place during the City of Culture year.

The second in a series of collaborations between the Department of Film and Television Studies, the Centre for Television Histories and the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, 2Tone: Lives and Legacies – 2Tone and Rock Against Racism focuses on the rise of 2Tone music in the city in the late seventies and early eighties and puts this in the context of the wider Rock Against Racism movement.

We’ll watch Arena: ‘Rudies Come Back, Or the Rise and Rise of 2Tone’ (BBC2, 12/3/80, 40 mins), a wonderful television documentary from the BBC archive about Coventry’s 2Tone scene and White Riot (2019, 84 mins) Rubika Shah’s award-winning film charting a vital national protest movement, Rock Against Racism (RAR). At the event we’ll be joined by award winning author and musician Daniel Rachel, Jeff Perks (director of ‘Rudies Come Back, Or the Rise and Rise of 2Tone’), and some exciting guests TBC.
