Daniel Rachel & Dave Randal - Mixing Pop and Politics

Musicians have often wanted to change the world – many have believed in the political power of music. Years of touring with Faithless (and protesting) have given Dave Randall a unique insider’s view of the music industry. Sound System talks about music as a force for social change as well as something that has been used to keep people in their place throughout history. Daniel Rachel’s Walls Come Tumbling Down charts the pivotal period between 1976 and 1992 that saw politics and pop music come together. Musicians and their fans suddenly became instigators of social change, and the political persuasion of musicians was as important as the songs they sang. He follows the rise and fall of three key movements of the time: Rock Against Racism, 2 Tone, and Red Wedge.
