DESCRIPTION:2 Tone: Lives & Legacies\nThe first-ever major exhibition in the UK devoted to the 2 Tone music sensation\n28 May 1 – 12 September  2021 \nThe 2 Tone sound originated in Coventry’s thriving music scene of the 1970s and the name derives from the legendary 2 Tone record label founded in 1979 by Jerry Dammers of The Specials\, referencing a desire to transcend and defuse racial tensions in Britain at that time. \n\nThe exhibition will explore the formation of the record label and examine its philosophy\, political and social message\, design and impact on the music charts of the day. It highlights the bands that were part of the label\, focussing on The Specials\, The Selecter and other ska-influenced bands such as Madness\, The Beat and The Bodysnatchers. \nIt will look at 2 Tone’s continuing influence on music\, fashion\, politics and culture. It will include interviews and quotes from original band members and 3rd wave bands from around the world\, famous fans and 2 Tone fanatics. It will also bring the story up to date – with band members touring nationally and internationally. \nThe exhibition will feature fashion items and memorabilia\, including the iconic 2 Tone suit\, Roddy Radiation’s pork pie hat\, Fred Perry polo shirt and the Harrington jacket. \nBook your free tickets now. \n  \n\n\n     \nImages: © Toni Tye \nThe show will culminate in an immersive 2 Tone experience celebrating the energy and legendary sound of the bands’ performances. The maverick soul collective wasn’t afraid to mix their styles\, look\, sound\, as well as the musicians throughout their 6 year tenure as one of UK’s most forward thinking bands. \nFounders Paul Weller and Mick Talbot\, who had both been in previous bands of differing success\, approached their new venture in 1983\, with a new thinking\, new ideals and a total anti-rock outlook\, with European Modernism at its pulsating heart. \nThey were soon joined by D.C. DESCRIPTION:“An annual weekend of music\, book readings and poetry inspires much talking and drinking late into the night\, a beacon of chaos in an \nover-organised world of festivals.” \n​ \nTracey Thorn in The New Statesman \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Laugharne Weekend is an annual literary and arts festival in West Wales. \nThe festival is held in the spring in the town of Laugharne. \nDylan Thomas\, Laugharne’s most famous inhabitant\, described it as a \n“timeless\, mild\, beguiling island of a town.” \nThe festival is deliberately small-scale. The size of the town – which itself is very small – ensures that the festival will not grow beyond certain bounds. Its location means that festival visitors and townspeople rub shoulders with the artists and performers. \nAccording to the festival’s co-founders\, Richard Thomas and the Cardiff writer John Williams\, \n“The point is that it’s a festival that involves the locality.” \nThe festival directors have also said: \n“I’d sooner start another festival than let it grow too big.” \nThe Laugharne Weekend concentrates on literature\, music and comedy\, bringing talent from all over the world but always maintaining a particular kinship with writers and musicians from Wales or who have a connection with Wales. \nPrevious headline performers have included Patti Smith\, Ray Davies of the Kinks\, Mick Jones of The Clash\, the actor Michael Sheen\, the writer Caitlin Moran\, the poet John Cooper Clarke\, the comedians Harry Hill and Alexei Sayle\, the painter Peter Blake etc. \nAll events take place in Laugharne’s clubs\, churches and halls\, tiny and intimate venues which entail the close proximity of audience and performers.The principal venues used are the Millennium Hall\, the Congregational Church and the Rugby Club \n​

As well as her own releases\, she was part of the last line up of The Slits. \nDennis Morris is an acclaimed photographer\, best known for his intimate photos of The Sex Pistols and Bob Marley.
