SUMMARY:London Road Q&A
DESCRIPTION:FOLLOWED BY Q & A with \nDirector RUFUS NORRIS & Actress OLIVIA COLMAN \nModerated by author\nDANIEL RACHEL\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSat 13th June at 6.30pm\n\nLONDON ROAD (15) is the film version of the play which was hailed as a remarkable\, ground-breaking work during two sell-out runs at the National Theatre. It documents the events that shook Suffolk in 2006\, when the quiet rural town of Ipswich was shattered by the discovery of the bodies of five women. The residents of London Road had struggled for years with frequent soliciting and kerb-crawling on their street. The film follows the community who found themselves at the epicenter of the tragic events. Using their own words set to an innovative musical score\, LONDON ROAD tells a moving story of ordinary people coming together during the darkest of experiences. \nDirected by Rufus Norris\,  the artistic director of the National Theatre and director of the 2012 film Broken\, the cast includes Broadchurch’s  Olivia Colman\, Tom Hardy (Mad Max)\, Kate Fleetwood\,  Rosalie Craig\, Anita Dobson and James Doherty. Moderated by author Daniel Rachel\, who worked with the National Theatre production of London Road\, assisting Rufus Norris. \nThe event is in aid of the charity Tender\, of which Olivia Colman is a patron. \nFacebook – www.facebook.com/peckhamplex   Twitter – @peckhamplex \nFOR BOOKINGS CONTACT – 0844 567 2742 \n

SUMMARY:Festival No. 6
DESCRIPTION:DANIEL RACHEL\n\nLITERATURE & TALKS\n\n\n\n \n  \nDaniel Rachel was born in in the summer before The Beatles announced their break-up. He wrote his first song when he was sixteen and in 2001\, he released his debut solo album\, A Simple Twist Of Folk\, on Dust Records\, followed by A Taste Of Money in 2006. Daniel is a specialist in Forum Theatre direction. \nDaniel’s true passion has always been to understand how artists write songs.  After reading an American book called Songwriters On Songwriting\, Daniel went in search of the British equivalent. He didn’t find it. So decided to create the book he wanted to read. \nIsle of Noises: Conversations with Great British Songwriters features 27 of the UK’s finest musicians discussing the magic and secrets behind their art. The heart of the book is to understand songwriting and the creative process behind the craft. \n‘…sometimes you know straightaway if someone’s going to be trotting out the same old stuff. Daniel’s obviously got a real feeling for the esoteric\, romantic and spiritual side of it.’ Johnny Marr. \nDaniel will be appearing in the Rock n’ roll part of Salon No.6’s in-festival series Sex\, Drugs and Rock n’ Roll.

SUMMARY:Harrogate International Literary Festival
DESCRIPTION:Friday 11th July\nSt George Hotel | 8pm\nTickets: £18 Unreserved \nBox Office: 01423 562303\nCOMBINED TICKET OFFER:\nBook both Cool Hunting and Personal TasteSalon North Events for £30\nEver since Harrogate International Festivals brought London’s most talked about evening to the town\, it’s been a sell-out sensation.\nSALON North is a revolutionary movement for the heart and mind. The SALON events consist of a night of the most stimulating ideas in art\, science and psychology designed to change your life for the better. \nThe format consists of an evening of three speakers\, each given 30 minutes to engage the audience with their subject\, interspersed with intervals allowing time for a well-crafted gin and tonic. Expect the remarkable! Please welcome\, your Salon North speakers…\n\nMusic:\nAuthor and musician Daniel Rachel wanted to get beyond his personal taste in music to understand the creativity at work in songwriting. ‘Isle of Noises’ is the result of his epic project to reveal and document the stories behind the UK’s best songs. The result tells us so much about the creative process of songwriting\, gives an in depth understanding of the craft involved; and helps us enjoy our playlists on a whole other level. \nFood:\nRenowned philosopher Julian Baggini helps us examine our taste in food\, asking the question could it be food is better for the soul than art? Certainly thinking seriously about food requires us to consider our relationship to nature\, to each other and to ourselves\, so perhaps thinking about food can teach us about being honorable\, and help us to decide how we want to live\, all of which are big themes in his book ‘The Virtues of the Table’. \nBooks:\nSummer is the time most people turn to fiction for stories to divert\, entertain and enjoy\, but how to be sure you get book that is right for your tastes? It’s always a worry\, so to ensure you get the right book for you\, the author of ‘The Novel Cure’\, Ella Berthoud will be leading the audience in a bibliotherapy session LIVE. Whatever your challenges are for summer 2014\, Ella will ensure you have the right book to hand.
