SUMMARY:Trinity Academy\, Edinburgh
DESCRIPTION:Daniel Rachel – Conversations with Great British Songwriters\n\nDaniel Rachel is the author of ‘Isle of Noises’ (Guardian and NME Book of the Year (2013)). \nDaniel’s book documents his conversations with over twenty British songwriters from Ray Davies to Paul Weller\, from Jimmy Page to Robin Gibb\, from Sting to Chris Difford & Glenn Tillbrook from Squeeze\, Mick Jones of the Clash\, from the Pet Shop Boys to some of the boys from Madness\, from Joan Armatrading to Annie Lennox and Lily Allen\, each time trying to understand some secrets of their songwriting and how some of their famous songs were inspired and created. \nIn this event Daniel will be interviewed by author Mike Nicholson. \nDaniel will talk about his experience of tracking down and meeting with many famous songwriters and will uncover stories behind some very familiar music. In between the stories\, you’ll hear snippets of songs and Daniel playing his guitar\, giving examples of how well-known songs came to be. \nSo\, who kicked off the Smiths songs\, Morrissey or Marr?\nHow have single chords or even a seemingly random noise from a moving car inspired familiar songs?\nWhat happens when a record company tells a band their song needs a new chorus and the clock is ticking? \nAll these questions and lots more will be answered. \nQuotes from previous attendees of this event: \n“A must-attend evening for anyone who takes their music seriously” \n“Great chat\, great stories\, fascinating insight into the anguish of songwriters – made me feel like giving it a go myself!” \n“One of the best nights of my life last year!” \nThis is a fundraising event towards new sound and light equipment at Trinity Academy. \nThe event will take place in Trinity Academy school library with a bar and live music alongside. \nDoors open 730pm with a provisional event start time of 8.15pm \nBooks can be purchased and signed by the author after the event.
